(NBC) — First, it was a hit on cable and then “Suits” became a phenomenon on streaming.

Now, one of its most popular characters is returning this Sunday night for two weeks to the legal drama’s spinoff series, “Suits LA.” Actor Gabriel Macht, who plays Harvey Specter, shared more about his comeback.

Playing hotshot lawyer Specter on “Suits” is almost second nature for Macht.

“When you play a character for 134 episodes for nine years straight, there’s a version of you that is the character, no matter what,” Macht said. “And so, all I got to do is put on a suit and I’m back in it.”

Macht is back six years after “Suits” ended, to reprise his role in the NBC spinoff “Suits LA.”

“[The decision to return] wasn’t easy,” Macht said. “I was like, ‘If it works for my family and if it works for me, I would come back.’ One of the big reasons I came back was because of the fans.”

Fans will see how Specter’s past connection to Stephen Amell’s “Suits LA” character, Ted Black, drives Sunday’s storyline about some present-day trouble.

“Harvey had, had made a judgment early on that he had to make, but it didn’t really go well for Ted,” Macht said.

Now, Specter is about making amends.

“He supports the people that he sees are in trouble, and he does whatever he can to make things right,” Macht said.

In this case, Macht is helping build the “Suits” universe.

“It’s their thing, it really is their thing,” Macht said. “I’m passing the torch, but I’m there to support them.”

“Suits LA” airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on NBC4, right after “The Americas.”
