(NBC) — NBC has a new episode of its hospital comedy, “St. Denis Medical” on tap Tuesday at 8 p.m., followed at 8:30 p.m. by the season premiere of “Night Court.”

That comedy finished last season with a major cliffhanger and added a major new cast member for Season 2.

With a surprising revelation in the final seconds of last spring’s season finale about the possible father of Judge Abbey Stone’s boyfriend being public defender Dan Fielding, played by John Larroquette, the new “Night Court” season was teed up.

“This question mark of is her boyfriend Dan’s son is definitely in her head and definitely fueling massive anxiety,” said show star Melissa Rauch, who plays Stone.

Enough to have the judge freak out a bit.

“It wouldn’t be the most horrible thing in the world, maybe, to be a dad,” said Larroquette. “So, if it happened, I guess he could roll with it, if it didn’t happen, he might be a little sad about the idea but would move on.”

While Dan waits for that verdict, the same Julianne who was out to get him in Season 1, has returned. Wendie Malick plays the reformed convict who is now the new prosecutor.

“I remember the first time she was on our set,” said Rauch. “There was a real electricity in the air with those scenes with her and John.”

“Wendie is just a pro and a very funny actor, so it’s great to work with her,” said Larroquette.

Work that leads to laughs.

“That’s the motto of this show, ‘Make ‘em laugh,’” said Larroquette.

“Night Court” airs Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. on NBC4, right after a new episode of “St. Denis Medical” and just before the start of the playoff round on “The Voice.”
