(NBC) — “Saturday Night Live” is down to its last three editions for season number 50.
This week, Quinta Brunson will return as host. A skit from the last time Brunson hosted “SNL” featured Heidi Gardner portraying a “toilet paper mama” character. The sketch was maybe not the stuff of “SNL” legend, but Brunson can dream.
“I would love for Toilet Paper Mama to become the next big thing,” Brunson said. “I want Toilet Paper Mama to have movies, merch!”
Promos are just part of the hosting ritual at “SNL” and teaming up with Sarah Sherman again had Brunson recalling her “SNL” debut.
“When she walked in, it was just a nice reminder, I shot my first ever promo with her, the first time I did the show,” Brunson said. “So just stuff like that. The whole thing is a fantastic memory.”
The “Abbott Elementary” star also has great memories of the 50th anniversary special.
“Fifty years of showing up on Saturday, almost no matter what, every week is incredible,” Brunson said.
A pop-in at the “Tonight Show” this week put Brunson back into late-night mode. Hosting two years ago helps even more.
“I feel a little bit more comfortable this time,” Brunson said. “I think going through the first experience is always a little bit of nervousness there, because there’s always like this, ‘I wanna do a good job.’”
An invitation back indicates she did.
Watch “Saturday Night Live” at 11:30 p.m. on NBC4, this week’s musical guest will be Benson Boone.
