(NBC) — NBC’s “The Voice” wrapped up Season 26 Tuesday night with a singer guided by a rookie coach coming out on top.
It didn’t take long for “The Voice” coaches to realize they were listening to someone special in the blind auditions and on Tuesday night, America felt the same way.
Sofronio Vasquez, the 31-year-old singer who came to the U.S. from the Philippines less than two years ago, won the Season 26 crown.
“As they announced my name as the winner, everything was just a flashback from where I started,” said Vasquez.
Vasquez lived in tough conditions in his home country, and he has been sending money back to his family from a different career path as a dental assistant in Utica, New York.
“I think I’m going to make the most time with making music with the best coach, Michael Bublé,” said Vasquez.
“I think dentistry is out buddy, I do,” said Bublé.
Bublé not only scored the winner in his first season, but he also had the runner-up in 18-year-old Shye.
“I was like, if Bublé is top two, Sofronio wins, and I get second, I will die happy,” said Shye.
Singing his way to “The Voice” title also has Vasquez pretty happy.
“Now winning it is just an amazing feeling,” said Vasquez.
A life-changing night.
Vasquez wins a recording contract for his victory.
Third place went to Team Gwen’s Sydney Sterlace of Buffalo. Team Reba’s Danny Joseph of Ft. Worth, Texas took fourth and Team Snoop’s Jeremy Beloate of Memphis was fifth.
