HOLLYWOOD, CA (NBC News) — “Spotlight” was a surprise winner at the 88th annual Academy Awards.
The newspaper drama took home a surprise Best Picture oscar, upsetting the heavily favored frontier drama “The Revenant”.
“The Revenant” still won big, bringing home Best Director honors for Alejandro Inarritu for the second year in a row, and a first career oscar for Leonardo DiCaprio as Best Actor.
Best actress went to “Room”‘s Brie Larson, completing her domination of award season.
“Mad Max: Fury Road” took home the most Oscars with six overall, all in technical categories.
