5-year-old gives donuts, free hugs to Charlotte police officers

CHARLOTTE, NC (WCMH) – During a tumultuous week in Charlotte, one little boy is giving police officers a reason to smile.

Deanna Hooker says her 5-year-old son was woken up by the sounds sirens and helicopters during the protests that rocked the North Carolina city after the fatal shooting of Keith Scott by a Charlotte Police officer. After hearing about the officers injured during the protests, her son wondered if he could bring the police donuts and give them hugs after school on Friday.

That’s exactly what he did.

With a “Free Hugs” sign around his neck, the little boy headed to the University Division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to let officers know he supports them.

Deanna says she is grateful for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and all law enforcement officers who protect the city.
