COLUMBUS (WCMH) — As the largest school district in Ohio continues to grow the Columbus Board of Education is taking a closer look at how to accommodate all of the needs that come with that growth.
Saturday morning an advisory committee made up of city and business leaders, community representatives and education officials gathered at the Columbus Downtown High School to evaluate the district’s current facilities plan.
Dr. Dan Good, Superintendent of Columbus City Schools, explained this process is needed to keep up with enrollment.
“There’s overcrowding in some buildings. So we want to make certain that that’s addressed. There’s a need for some particular instructional facilities in particular buildings. We want to make certain that they can accommodate those with projected enrollment. So it’s time for this to be done.”
Members of this committee are expected to make recommendations for the full board to vote by late summer. Members of the community can email CCSFacilitiesPlan@k12.oh.us with questions or concerns.
There are 52,000 students in the Columbus City School District.
