After Ohio toddler’s death, stepdad charged over unsecured gun

TOLEDO, OH (AP) – The stepfather of a 2-year-old girl who was fatally shot has been charged with child endangering in northwest Ohio.

The Blade in Toledo reports that court documents indicate 27-year-old Turhan Johnson told police he left a handgun unsecured in his home.

No details were immediately released about how the child was shot or whether someone fired the weapon. The girl died at a hospital Sunday, and police charged Johnson after being called to that facility.

Court records didn’t indicate whether Johnson has an attorney. His initial court appearance was scheduled Monday.
