COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A Columbus woman is celebrating the six-year anniversary of the shooting that left her paralyzed.
Alexandria ‘Alix’ Reese was shot in the neck on May 27, 2010. It happened while she was driving at the intersection of Atcheson Street and Trivette Avenue in Columbus.
Police say she drove into the crossfire as 25-year-old Drakkar Groce fired shots at a group of people across the street. He was arrested Thursday, almost six years after the crime and is charged with one count of felonious assault.
On Sunday, Reese’s friends and family gathered at Level One Bar & Arcade to celebrate her “rebirthday.” Reese says it’s important to make the anniversary of her shooting a happy day, not a sad one.
“It feels great,” she says. “I just like being with all my friends and family and everyone I love to celebrate this day instead of looking down and regretting it.”
Alix says she lets herself feel upset a little each morning, but then takes those emotions and turns them into positives.
