DELAWARE COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — Today groups of scouts, veterans and families spent the afternoon honoring military veterans and their service to our county.

They did that by placing 1,647 American flags on veteran’s graves at Resurrection Cemetery.

The organizer said it was heart-warming to see so many of the 200 people there were young people. A Navy veteran who spoke with NBC4 said it means the memories of what those brave men and women sacrificed in service will be remembered by future generations.

People turned out and worked in some pretty steamy weather for a just cause.

“Well the great thing about this, there are hundreds of people here helping out, many of them cub scouts, many of them younger family members and children who are there for honor flights too,” said Bob “They also come here because it is a patriotic adventure for them too.”

They tackled the large project by dividing up in groups of six to 10 with each group taking 50 to 60 grave sites each.

“Honoring those that died, that have been in wars and like getting the day off from school,” he said.

Bill Anderson and his fellow Navy submariners were also in a group planting flags. “Part of our goal is to perpetuate the memory of our lost shipmates and this is just an extension of that, they may not be shipmate just former veterans it is all the same to us.”

Isolated showers came through the area just as the groups were finishing.

Resurrection Catholic Cemetery is on U.S. 23 just south of S.R. 750 (Polaris Parkway). The cemetery is the same one where Central Ohio honored fallen Hilliard police officer Sean Johnson, who was buried earlier in the week.What others are clicking on:
