An act of kindness: Officer washes feet of blind homeless man

HOUSTON, TX (WCMH) — Officers say they were just performing a simple act of kindness for a man who needed help.

“So you gotta have a heart for it. You gotta have a heart for this kind of work,” Houston Officer Sgt. Steve Wick told KTRK.

Wick is the officer seen in the picture washing the man’s feet and clipping his toenails.

“To get the toenails cut will, will make your life of walking around a whole lot better and he couldn’t do it for himself,” said Wick.

Wick and other officers with the Houston Police Department, brought the sick man to a sobering center after he had an accident.

Officers washed him off and he took his first shower in years.

Officer Colin Mansfield was by Wick’s side helping the man.

“It’s just helping your fellow man and reaching out to your community. I think this is how we serve, you know, the community best,” Mansfield told KTRK.
