COLUMBUS (WCMH) — An anonymous donor paid to have 1,200 City BBQ meals delivered to Columbus police throughout the city.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the past few weeks have been filled with countless thanks through email, letters, food and word of mouth.

But one supporter wanted to show his appreciation by buying lunch at City BBQ for more than a thousand Columbus Police officers.

The meals were delivered on both Tuesday, and again today, to various CPD locations at different times so as many officers as possible could have the free meal.

With about 1,900 officers employed with the Columbus Division of Police, that means many officers enjoyed a free lunch over the past few days.

“There are still those that appreciate the police, so this is a big sign of thanks and it is very much appreciated,” said Sergeant Kyle Fishburn.

“This is unbelievably nice that someone would donate this, and we definitely appreciate it so thank you,” said officer Gary Patterson.

Sergeant Fishburn says generous acts of kindness show the kind of relationship officers and the community have with each other.

“It is very much appreciated. We enjoy the opportunity to serve our community. And it is just a great sign of respect that they are still thinking of us,” Fishburn said.
