CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A parent of an elementary school student faces charges after getting into an argument with his daughter’s principal over the school’s attendance policy.

Conway Police officers were dispatched to Homewood Elementary School Thursday morning around after school officials say Salahuddin Oneal, 40, became irate during a meeting with the principal. According to a police report, Oneal was meeting with administrators regarding his daughter being brought to school late and picked up early on numerous occasions.

When administrators explained to Oneal that he was violating the school’s attendance policy, the conversation escalated.

School officials say Oneal began yelling “you are evil,” and “you don’t care.” Before he walked out of the office, the police report says Oneal told school administrators, “you only want to keep a black man down. You only help white folks. You break the law all the time for white folks.”

Police say Oneal then began to wander down the school hallway, at which point the principal followed him, telling Oneal that he could not be in that portion of the school. The principal then told him that he had called police, which Oneal responded saying “the police don’t scare [me],” before leaving the building.

Officers later located Oneal and arrested him on one count of disturbing schools. He was released the following day on a $5,000 bond.
