Armed customer kills hatchet-wielding attacker in 7-Eleven store

BOULEVARD PARK, WA (WCMH) — A masked man swinging a hatchet in a 7-Eleven store was shot and killed by a customer with a concealed handgun.

It happened around 5:45 Sunday morning at the store in King County near Seattle.

The King County Sheriff’s Office said a man armed with a woodcutting hatchet came into the store and silently started swinging the hatchet.

Kuldeep Singh, a clerk in the store, told KIRO-TV he was hit two or three times by the attacker. Singh received a gash to his stomach, but is otherwise okay.

Sgt. Cindi West told KIRO “This could have been disastrous.”

A 60-year-old regular customer with a concealed carry license is credited with stopping the attack.

“Had this [customer] not shot, who knows what would’ve happened. We might have a dead clerk right now and instead we have a dead bad guy,” said West.

No charges are expected against the customer, but the case will be referred to the prosecutor’s office for review.
