As holidays near, over 5 million expected to visit post offices on Monday

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (KXRM) – Christmas is just about a week away!

Monday, December 19 will be the busiest day of the year for the United States Postal Service, with more than 611 million pieces of mail expected to be mailed by the 19th, according to officials with USPS.


Consumers are urged to save time and avoid crowds by shipping from home for the holidays. By going to the USPS website, you can print postage-paid shipping labels and request a free pickup of your packages.

USPS expects this holiday season to be a record-breaker for packages with Postal Service carriers delivering 750 million holiday packages nationwide – a 12 percent increase from last year and double the number of holiday packages delivered just four years ago, according to officials.

Thursday, December 22 is expected to be the busiest delivery day of the year. USPS expects to deliver over 30 million packages.
