COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (KOAA) An atheist billboard is catching the eyes of drivers heading into Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The message seems to target teens, encouraging them to skip church this Christmas, ultimately urging drivers to celebrate the atheist way.
It was put up by a national group, American Atheists, and will stay up through the month of December.
“What we want to do is go into places just like Colorado Springs where the incorrect assumption is that everybody’s a Christian just like you… that’s not true,” Nick Fish, the national program director of American Atheists says.
But not everyone agrees, a spokesman for Focus on the Family tells News5 kids belong with their families on Christmas.
“Good things happen at church, there are great lessons learned there, great community is forged there and to discourage anyone from experiencing that, is something we obviously disagree with,” Paul Batura, Vice President of Ministry Communications at Focus on the Family said.
