Subtropical Storm Alex the first storm to claim a name off of the Atlantic’s 2016 hurricane season list. The low pressure system is located deep in the north Atlantic, closer to the African coast.
Alex is the first tropical or subtropical storm to form in January since an unnamed system did so in 1978.
