ORLAND, FL (WESH) A newborn baby boy was found Friday after being abandoned on the back porch of a Florida apartment.

A man returning home from work heard a whimpering cry and found a baby wrapped in a blanket on his back porch.

He called the police and the infant was taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition.

Authorities say the baby was just hours old.

“Obviously this is this child’s birthday today. And it’s quite a way to come into this world, but we’re grateful the child was found and is healthy and is going to be okay. We believe it’s a Hispanic male,” Jane Watrel, Orange County Sheriff’s Spokeswoman, says.

Now deputies are searching for the child’s parents.

Florida has a Safe Haven law, which allows parents to leave a child at fire station or hospital with no questions asked.
