(NECN) One high school senior in Lowell, Massachusetts is thinking outside of the box when it comes to raising money for college.
18-year-old Emily Stutz has started panhandling for cash, even carrying a sign explaining her situation to strangers.
“I have this huge gap of money and there’s no way of it coming in, so that’s why I decided to do what I did,” said Stutz, who is going to med school next year.
Like her sign says, Stutz is a 4.0 student athlete who works two jobs and volunteers. But even with merit scholarships and financial aid, she says her family still can’t afford college.
She was able to raise about $600 after one day of work–not bad at all until you see the $20,000 that she has already raised on her GoFundMe.com page.
