COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The City of Columbus is now actively seeking proposals from vendors to outfit more than 1,400 officers with body worn cameras.

The request for quotes calls for the city to purchase more than 1,500 body worn cameras over a three year period.

The city plans to purchase 100 body worn cameras in 2016 and another 1,432 over the course of 2017 and 2018.

According to bid documents, the initial 100 cameras will be issued to officers in the traffic operations section, followed by bicycle patrol, recruits, second shift patrol, day/evening mid-watch patrol, third shift patrol, first shift patrol, SWAT, patrol sergeants, truancy, and information desk.

Additional cameras will be on-hand to replace cameras that are damaged or in need of repair.

Vendors interested in bidding have until 4pm on June 15 to submit their proposals.

By the end of October, the city hopes to have a contract in place.

Companies that make it through the first phase of the bidding process will be asked to provide cameras to the city for testing. The city is not asking for price information until a later phase of the process.

The city formed a committee in October of 2015 to look into how to best implement body worn cameras in Columbus. What others are clicking on:
