ROSEMONT, IL (WCMH/AP) – The Big Ten has issued a public reprimand of University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh.

The public reprimand said that Harbaugh violated the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy with his comments about game officials after the Ohio State-Michigan game on Saturday.

“This was not a first down,” Harbaugh said after the game, referencing a play in which officials called a first-down after J.T. Barrett slammed into the back of his blocker at the line to gain on the fourth down. “I’m bitterly disappointed with the officiating today.”

Harbaugh drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty earlier in the game after an offside call on Michigan. He also was angry about a pass interference call on Michigan during Ohio State’s game-tying drive late and a non-call on a would-be pass interference against the Buckeyes in OT.

“Coaches are teachers as well, and there is an expectation that they set the example for students and others in the area of sportsmanship,” the Big Ten Conference said in a release.
