DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police near Dayton are searching for two people who escaped from the Fayette County Jail in Indiana on Saturday.
Chadwick Heath and Michael Roberts may be in the Dayton area, according to police.
Late Sunday night, authorities found a vehicle that was reported stolen in Fayette County, in the 1800 block of North Gettysburg in Dayton.
According to the sheriff’s office Facebook page, the 2015 White Ford F350 Dual Wheel Utility Truck reported stolen wasn’t damaged and the keys were inside.
The truck reportedly belongs to a former employer of Roberts. The employer said Roberts has stolen from him in the past.
Surveillance cameras caught the two men jumping to the ground and running away from the Fayette County Jail.
The video shows them leaving around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night but authorities didn’t notice them missing until two hours later, when they were doing a head count before bed.
One at a time, the first inmate jumps 18 feet to the ground, not stopping or waiting on the other, just running for his life.
About 25 seconds later, the video shows the other doing the exact same thing.
Authorities believe the two were working together and were able to remove a two feet by two feet portion of the wall made of concrete blocks and brick.
Investigators found a piece of metal left behind, which they believe could’ve been used to cut through the wall.
Both men faced sentences of more than 10 years in prison, although neither of them were arrested for violent crimes.
Heath is charged with four counts of dealing in a narcotic drug, and one count each for maintaining a common nuisance and visiting a common nuisance.
Roberts has been charged with two counts of theft and one for burglary.
Since both men will now face more charges, authorities believe they could be dangerous.
Fayette County Prosecutor Bette Jones and her office are offering a cash reward of $1,000 per inmate for any information.
If you have any information you’re asked to call the county’s Sheriff’s office at 765-825-1110 Ext 602 or the Fayette County Central Dispatch at 765-825-2111.
