Cedar Point’s Mean Streak gets the axe

SANDUSKY, OH (WCMH) – After 25 seasons, Cedar Point has announced the permanent closure of the Mean Streak roller coaster.

A video posted to Twitter this morning by the park shows various views of the coaster, followed by a shot of a man with a gray beard striking the coaster’s wooden supports with an axe.

The video closes with the words “Mean Streak gets the axe September 16”

Mean Streak is a 161 foot tall wooden coaster that reaches a top speed of 65mph. The park says the ride contains 1.7 million board feet of southern yellow pine.

When it opened in 1991, it broke world records for tallest lift and longest drop on a wooden roller coaster.

No word yet  on what will replace the Mean Streak.
