Children battling cancer fly to North Pole

CHICAGO (WCMH) – A group of children battling cancer went on a ‘fantasy flight’ to the North Pole for a visit with Santa Claus.

Thirty-four children, along with their families got on the plane in Chicago on Sunday and took off from O’Hare International Airport, WLS reported.

Pilots and flight attendants from United Airlines volunteered to staff the trip.

When they landed, Santa and Mrs. Claus were on-hand to greet them.

The plane flew under the call-sign “SANTA1.”

‘Operation North Pole’ is an annual tradition. The organization’s president said children get to leave with presents and lasting memories they build as a family.
