COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus city council is set to vote on what to do with your tax dollars in the coming year. More than half of the billion-dollar capital budget is allotted for infrastructure work on things like water and sewer improvements.
Councilors have held at least four public meetings over the last two months and are set to vote on the budget on Monday. The budget overall plans to spend $720 million in new funding with $294 in carry over dollars. Here is a list of some of the big ticket items.
- $557 Million for water and sewer improvements across Columbus.
- $39 Million for street repaving (a record high for the city).
- $25.5 Million to renovate and build new fire stations.
- $20 Million for a new Linden Community Recreation Center.
- $7.2 Million to renovate police facilities.
- $5 Million for Affordable Housing Alliance to leverage additional funding to support affordability efforts in Columbus.
- $2.5 Million for restoration of Davis Center.
- $1 Million for Family Adventure Center in Franklin County.
- $1 Million for gunfire detection system.
- $4 Million for new sidewalks
- $5 Million for New lighting in Olde Towne East, Milo-Grogan.
