It’s been nearly a year and a half since two men were found dead inside a vehicle in west Columbus, and police are still searching for answers.
On Jan. 23, 2017, police officers were dispatched to the rear of 3710 Eakin Road around 9:30pm on the report of an unknown man attempting to set fire to a rag that was inserted into the gas tank of a blue Dodge Charger with Florida plates. The man was unable to start a fire and fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they found the bodies of two men, later identified as Caleb Killen and Jawuan Reynolds, inside the Charger. Investigators believe the two longtime friends were murdered somewhere else earlier in the day and that someone was trying to cover up the crime.
“Apparently, there had been a homicide that had taken place earlier in the day, and we’re assuming there was the intention to burn the car up,” Central Ohio Crime Stoppers board member Bill Taylor said.

Now, investigators are asking for people who knew Killen and Reynolds to come forward with information about who the two young men may have been involved with around that time.
“Associates, things like that we try to link with the crime,” Taylor said. “Their whereabouts in the preceding 12 hours certainly, maybe 24 to 48 hours, what they themselves may have been up to because we simply don’t know at this point.”
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the suspect or suspects responsible for Killen and Reynolds’ deaths. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS(8477).
