DELAWARE COUNTY, OH (WCMH) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol Monday released video that shows troopers pursuing a suspect after a shooting at a Delaware County rest stop.

It started October 2 at the rest area along I-71 north near Sunbury.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Shawn A. Johnson, 25, of Westerville, fired several shots at a vehicle at the rest stop, striking Alexander S. Melchert, a student at the College of Wooster.

The Highway Patrol and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies later located Johnson’s vehicle and began chasing him. The pursuit came to an end after the suspects’ vehicle drove over road spikes and crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 71 northbound in Richland County.READ MORE: Family says rest stop shooting victim is ‘bulletproof’
