FRESNO, CA (WCMH) — The California Highway Patrol released the video showing a crowd of people attacking the officer’s vehicle after he responds to the report of a vehicle driving recklessly.
According to the CHP, the officer pulls up to the scene and attempts to make the driver of a white Chevy Tahoe to turn off the vehicle.
However, the driver of the Tahoe drives off, and when the officer gets back into his vehicle things began to turn violent.
“This was absolute anarchy on the part of the individuals that were vandalizing the CHP vehicle with him inside. I have no doubt that had that officer got out of the vehicle, they would have attacked him,” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer told KMPH.
As the officer attempts to get away, several people begin to kick his vehicle’s doors and his windows are shattered.
So far, three men have been arrested in the incident, but they continue to search for more suspects.
“People think they can do things and get away with it when there are large numbers of people around. But with the use of iPhone video, dash cams, and our officers wearing body-worn cameras, they aren’t going to get away with it,” said Dyer.
The officer was not hurt in the attack.
