COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A North Linden area daycare center will be closed Thursday after high winds blew the roof right off the building.

It happened early Thursday morning at Kids Kingdom Childcare and Learning Center at 970 Oakland Park Avenue.

The flat roof of the single story building was peeled back and came in contact with power lines located behind the building.

The owner of the daycare told NBC4 the roof was brand new.

The daycare center will be closed for at least Thursday, according to police.

Nobody is being allowed inside until a structural engineer can evaluate the structure and determine if it is safe. That is making it difficult to notify parents affected by the closure, as all client contact information is located inside.

Shortly before 3am, a transformer on a nearby pole exploded, causing a power outage affecting around 200 customers.
