ROCK HILL, SC (AP) – Police in South Carolina say they are investigating a day care employee accused of asking an 8-year-old boy to give a urine sample so her adult son could use it to pass a drug test.
The Rock Hill Police report said the boy told his mother that he was awakened from a nap last week and told to urinate in a cup.
Investigators say the mother called the worker at New Beginnings Childcare, who apologized several times and told her that her son had just gotten out of jail and couldn’t find a job.
Police spokesman Mark Bollinger says no charges have been filed, but investigators are reviewing a state law that makes it illegal to defraud a drug test.
Gloria Bowens tells WSOC she didn’t realize the mother had gone to police until the station told her, saying she thought the issue had been resolved with the parents.
“We talked it over and everything so I thought everything was great,” said Bowen.
