COLUMBUS (WCMH) — One person is dead after a motorcycle crash on I-270 Wednesday morning and deputies are searching for two vehicles that may have been involved.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, at about 7:57am, Wednesday, deputies were called to I-270 eastbound near Alum Creek Drive on the report of a motorcycle crash.

Deputies say a 2003 gold colored Harley Davidson motorcycle, being driven by John R. Diddle, 32, of Columbus, was traveling eastbound on I-270 when it struck the rear of a dark colored pickup truck after traffic slowed abruptly.

Diddle was ejected from the motorcycle, and was then struck by a red SUV. Neither the truck nor the SUV remained at the scene, according to deputies.

Diddle was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are looking for a dark pickup truck, possibly dark gray. Along with another vehicle described as possibly a pickup or SUV, lighter in color, potentially red,” said Marc Gofstein, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

He said investigators were told by witnesses that both vehicles had stickers similar to ones used at auto auctions, with a scan strip on the sticker.

“We are near the Obetz Auto Auction, we have checked there and there are no vehicles that match their descriptions,” Gofstein said.

But both vehicles might show signs of a crash.

“Take a look at the vehicle if you have the opportunity to see if anything would indicate possibly hitting something or any other marks,” he said.

There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash and Diddle was wearing a helmet at the time.
