ATHENS, OH (WCMH) –After investigating a video threat posted to the social media app Yeti, Athens County Deputies say they don’t believe there is any specific threat to the area.

All Athens County public school districts were closed after Ohio University Police received a report of a threat over the social media app.

According to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio University Police received a report early Friday morning that an anonymous video threatening the safety of “American students” had been posted to the social media app Yeti.

However, deputies say after investigating it was determined that the video was actually posted in Europe and appeared in the “Ohio University” feed based on users’ keywords, not locations.

Based on the new information, there is no specific threat to Athens County or Ohio University, according to deputies.

The Athens County School District was closed as a precaution Friday, while deputies investigated the threat.

Ohio University remains open and commencement will continue as scheduled, but according to the sheriff’s department, additional police staffing and increased security measures will be in place.

Deputies did say they still encourage people to report any threat they may see and commend the person who reported the video Friday morning. What others are clicking on:
