MOUNT VERNON, OH (WCMH) — Two dogs have been euthanized after deputies said they may have been responsible for the death of a one-month-old baby.
The Knox County Sheriff said the dogs were euthanized for examination, as the investigation continues.
An autopsy was scheduled on Thursday for the infant, but the coroner has not yet released the findings.
People in the community are rallying around the family, supporting them during this difficult time.
“There are no words. This has been devastating, devastating to everybody,” said friend and co-worker Whitney Kandel. “There are both great people. They were so excited to have this baby and they’re both caring, wonderful people.”
That’s why she said they’re collecting donations for the family on Saturday at the Country Club Retirement Campus from 12-6pm, during their musical showcase.
“During the event we will be accepting donations from the public,” said Kandel. “This is our family. We take care of each other here.”
The Sheriff’s Office said there had been no prior complaints or calls to the address on Wooster Road, regarding the two dogs.
Grief counseling is being provided to family members.
Kandel said you can also make a monetary to the family through CES Credit Union. Checks must be written out to: Jacqueline Lang.
