Dunkin Donuts sued over use of Chinese-made artificial sweetener

CANTON, MA (WCMH) – The company that makes Splenda is suing Dunkin Donuts over the chain’s use of off-brand sucralose.

Dunkin Donuts stopped using name-brand Splenda earlier this year.

According to the lawsuit, the chain now offers a Chinese-made off-brand sucralose, in yellow packets like Splenda.

In court documents, Heartland Consumer Products says they sent investigators to more than 70 Dunkin Donuts stores to ask for Splenda. In each case, the investigator was directed to the other product. The company also said that restaurant staff sometimes falsely said Splenda was used in its products.

Heartland claims that Dunkin Donuts is damaging Splenda’s reputation and they want compensation.

Dunkin Donuts has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit.
