NEWARK, OH (WCMH) — A 76-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a driver in the parking lot of a Newark Walmart.

Police were called to the scene in the 1300 block of North 21st Street around 11:43am Friday morning and found the woman’s body on scene. She was later identified as Carol Jones of Newark.

Officers later took Robert D. Shook, 34, into custody in relation to the crash.

Police say the vehicle driven by Shook was seen driving in reverse through the parking lot before striking Jones. The vehicle then struck several parked vehicles.

Police say Shook had a suspended license. He was taken into custody and transported to Licking Memorial Hospital and later taken to OSU Medical Center.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story.
