DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police said a man is in “grave condition” after getting shot by an elderly woman in a possible burglary attempt Monday night in Dayton.
Police were called to the 1100 block of Oakridge Drive in Dayton just after 6:40 p.m.
Officers said they were called on reports of shots being fired after a possible burglary.
When they arrived, officers found a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound on the porch of a home. They said the elderly woman shot the man as she tried to protect herself.
The man was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
Witnesses told police they saw a group of people hanging around the home before the shooting.
Police said the elderly woman is being cooperative.
“People do have a right to protect their home if they feel as though their life is in danger, but there are specific circumstances on which those may occur,” said Lt. Mark Ponichtera with the Dayton Police Department. “It’ll be up to the detectives to determine whether or not those particular parameters have been met in this instance.”
Officers said they are also looking for two other people who may have been in the area during the shooting.
A K9 unit was called and led officers to a home on Edison Street.
Police said the two people they are looking for are still on the run. What others are clicking on:
