MADISON CO., OH (WCMH) — A crash involving a car and a tanker truck closed US 42 in both directions Monday afternoon. The truck was a tanker truck that was carrying hydroxylpropyl acrylate, a toxic and poisonous material that could have comubsted, causing area agencies to put evacuations in place. The road is now back open and evacuations have been lifted.

It happened at 2:46pm at intersection where Canaan Middle School is located. The incident closed US 42 between M V High and Killbury-Huber Road.

The school and bus garage were immediately evacuated following the crash. Some homes in the area were also evacuated.

Just before 6:00pm, crews expanded the evacuation zone near the crash site to include all homes a half a mile south to M V High along US 42.

Officials say that nothing hazardous spilled or leaked from the truck, but the evacuations were a precaution due to the combustible nature of the materials on board the truck.

Three patients were evaluated on scene following the crash, but no one was taken to the hospital.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story. To get alerts for breaking news, grab the free NBC4 News App for iPhone or Android. You can also sign up for email alerts.
