Explosive devices found in New Straitsville home

NEW STRAITSVILLE, OH (WCMH) – The Perry County Sheriff’s Office says that deputies responded to a report of a possible explosive device at a New Straitsville residence early Sunday morning.

Just after 1am, the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and the Shawnee Police department were dispatched to the 200 block of West Main Street in New Straitsville. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the device was a possible explosive and contacted the Franklin County Sherriff’s Office Bomb Squad. The New Straitsville and Shawnee Fire Departments and Perry County Emergency Management office evacuated nearby residences.


The Franklin County Bomb Squad confirmed that two improvised explosive devices were on the premises. The Bomb Squad then transported the IEDs to another location and detonated them under controlled condition.
