Facebook activated its safety check feature Tuesday, following deadly attacks in and around Brussels.

The feature allows users in the area of a tragedy or other disaster to mark themselves as safe. That user’s ‘friends’ can then see that mark, and easily confirm that they are safe.

The feature was used during the attacks in Paris in November.

NBC News reported that users were pleading with Facebook to activate the feature because phone networks are saturated with traffic.
