VISALIA, CA (WCMH) – A nine-year-old girl didn’t have to go very far in her search for a life-saving kidney transplant.

Billie Ladig is obsessed with puppies and loves to go swimming. Her parents go out of their way to make every day count.

Now, her father is making a sacrifice to make sure that she has more of those days to come, KMPH reports.

When Billie was two, she was diagnosed with Faconi Syndrome. It’s a rare condition that affects how her kidneys function. The condition also takes a toll on her other organs.

“Her vision’s gone bad. Her hearing. Her growth. But the kidney is the main thing right now,” said Billy Ladig, Billie’s father.

Billie depends on a feeding tube and at least 14 medicines every day. Her mother left her job in order to care for her full time.

“There’s a lot of small things it affects, which to a nine-year-old is big. She don’t get to run, she can’t play. She can’t climb, her body don’t have the muscular tone a normal nine year old kid does,” said her father.

Doctors say her only hope of living longer is a transplant. The ideal candidate is her father.

The procedure will keep Billy, the family’s only source of income from working for nearly six weeks. He says it’s a sacrifice worth making, in hopes that his daughter will have a healthier future.
