COLUMBUS (WDTN) – A girl missing for the last five years may have been spotted here in Columbus, Ohio. Now, the Charlotte Division of the FBI is offering a reward to find her.
Rachel Natacha Owens was last seen getting into a car outside of her South Brunswick High School in Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina on May 5, 2011. Owens rode the bus to high school that day. Surveillance video shows Owens getting off the bus and getting into a small, dark-colored car with a possible South Carolina license plate.
The FBI has information that Rachel may have been seen in Columbus as recently as 2014. Special Agents are expanding the investigation to Ohio and offering a new $5,000 reward for information that leads to finding Rachel and the identification, arrest and conviction of the people responsible for her disappearance.
Owens is now 20 years old and may go by “Raquel” or “Rakel”.
Investigators say Rachel had run away in the past and expressed a desire to go to Mexico. Rachel has had no contact with any family members or friends since the day she left her high school.
The FBI is using a combination of social media publicity including Facebook and Twitter and billboards in North Carolina and Ohio to publicize her disappearance and generate tips from the public to find her. New missing posters in both English and Spanish will be featured on the FBI’s website.
Rachel may be with a man of Hispanic descent, who is much older than she is and who possibly works in the construction business.
Anyone with information on Rachel’s whereabouts should call 1-800-CALL FBI or the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at 910-253-2777.
