COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Columbus Division of Fire investigators have arrested a man suspected of damaging an east Columbus liquor store with a pipe bomb, according to a press release.

Police originally responded to the Bexley Liquor Agency at 12:41 a.m. that day because something had set off the burglary alarm. They found damage to the rear of the store and what appeared to be evidence of a pipe bomb, and called the fire department.

Fire investigators spent several days collecting and analyzing evidence and following leads before having enough proof to charge Curtis S. Scarberry, of 268 Martin Avenue, with unlawful possession of dangerous ordinance.

Fire investigators arrested Curtis last Saturday. At his arraignment Monday morning, he was released on a $20,000 bond.

The business suffered an estimated $1,000 in damage from the bomb, and an unknown amount in lost business while the investigation kept the store closed, the fire department said.

The same day, the Division of Fire responded to a string of arson fires on the east side. Investigators have determined that this incident and the fires are not related.
