COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A fire destroyed an apartment on Broad Meadows Boulevard Sunday night.

Desmond Johnson said he was talking to a neighbor when he heard someone yelling ‘fire!’

Johnson said his two kids had just been picked up by their mother.

The fire started at 11:34 p.m. Sunday night.

He went inside to try to get a fire extinguisher, but the fire and smoke became too intense.

The damage to the house is severe and a lot of Johnson’s furniture was destroyed.

However, he said he’s just lucky his two kids are safe.

Johnson believes the fire might have been started by a running air conditioner.

Fire investigators are still working to determine the exact cause.
