LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (WXIA) — A missing person’s case came to a swift resolution Sunday morning in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Joy Cao knew something was wrong when she found her grandfather’s empty wheelchair. Cao told 911 dispatchers she last saw him after she made breakfast around 8:30 that morning. After searching the neighborhood and talking with neighbors, she called for help.

A team of officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department arrived and quickly located Cao’s grandfather in a nearby ravine.

“We know that based on historical findings of where these people are found, that a lot of Alzheimers patients, elderly persons and children are often found near bodies of water,” Cpl. Michele Pihera said.

Because of his limited mobility, officers physically carried Yan out of the ravine to his granddaughter.
