COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A fire in east Columbus Monday night damaged two homes and charred a pickup truck.

Photos taken by @TommyObrien67 on Twitter show large flames shooting from the roof of one of the homes.

A man who was nearby at the time helped make sure the one person who was home at the time got out safe.

Floyd Meadows said he’s no hero, but he may have saved a woman’s life.

“I was standing outside and I said I think something’s on fire because I see the smoke,” said Meadows.

He ran around back, jumped a fence and started banging on the door.

“She came to the door and I said m’am you gotta get out your house is on fire,” said Meadows.

Columbus Fire Department Batallion Chief Steve Martin said it wasn’t an easy one to put out.

“Basically, we had two house fires and a car fire that we were attacking,” he said.

Meadows said he’s just glad everyone is okay.

“I think I was in the right place at the right time. I’m no hero or nothing.”

Batallion Chief Martin said firefighters are still investigating where and how the fire started.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story. To get alerts for breaking news, grab the free NBC4 News App for iPhone or Android. You can also sign up for email alerts.
