REYNOLDSBURG, OH (WCMH) – A former Reynoldsburg police officer charged in connection with a federal corruption investigation will appear in court Wednesday morning.
Shane Mauger, a former lieutenant with the Reynoldsburg Police Department agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to deprive persons of civil rights and federal program theft.
The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio said Wednesday that Shane Mauger “stole money and property” during his tenure as an officer, dating from Nov. 2006. The district attorney said Mauger and a co-conspirator stole between $150,000-$250,000 of money and property.
Mauger is the second Reynoldsburg officer charged in the federal corruption investigation.
Each of the crimes carries a potential maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Narcotics detective Ty Downard was arrested in February on charges that he diverted narcotics seized during police investigations. Federal authorities alleged that Downard delivered the drugs to a street level dealer with whom he split the proceeds.
Downard committed suicide in his jail cell in Delaware County a few days after his arrest.
Downard and Mauger often worked together on narcotics investigations. The Franklin County Prosecutors Office dismissed charges in at least 15 pending drug cases because of Downard’s involvement. What others are clicking on:
