FRANKLIN COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — Deputies are searching for the driver of a vehicle after a bicyclist was killed in a crash along Agler Road.
Investigators are calling the crash a hit and run.
It happened on Alger Road east of Fern Avenue around 3:38 a.m. A vehicle was traveling west on Agler Road east of Fern Avenue when it struck a bicyclist in the roadway.
Police say Joshua Richardson III was on his way to work riding his blue bicycle when he was hit and then left in the middle of the street. Michael Fiamingo saw it all happen right in front of him.
“I just saw the SUV just speed through here. As he was going through he just plowed right over something I didn’t actually see what it was at first,” said Fiamingo. “So I heard a massive crash, a ripping sound and the guy just kept going and he kept going. I saw the body flying with it down the sidewalk. Yeah, it was horrible I never want to see that again, ever.”
Fiamingo called 911 immediately and said deputies arrived right away.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Marc Gofstein explains more.
“Deputies arrived to find a male bicyclist on scene but no motor vehicle as it had fled the scene. A witness identified a dark SUV with possible front end damage and headlight glass was found at the scene,” said Gofstein.
Employees of the Agler Mart said the crash happened right in front of their store and was caught on surveillance cameras. They are working with crash investigators.
Richardson, 41, was pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center 8:55 a.m.
Fiamingo is still in shock after hearing the news that Richardson died, “They didn’t call me or tell me that so I didn’t know that… that really… that’s awful.”
He has words for the driver behind the wheel of the SUV that struck Richardson.
“You’re an awful person you deserve whatever comes to you.”
If you saw anything early Wednesday morning or notice a dark SUV with front-end damage, investigators want to hear from you.
