If you’re one of the millions of Americans who resolve to get in shape and be healthier every year, there may have been a time or two that you balked at the expensive gym membership or got skittish making sure you chose the right gym or fitness studio.
This week, we’re helping you take the guesswork and expensive fees out of finding the perfect gym or workout for you. We’ve rounded up the best free fitness classes and gym/fitness studio trials in the Columbus metro area to help you keep your New Year’s resolutions.
Recurring free classes:
Each and every Sunday morning, Lululemon Athletica at both Polaris Fashion Place and Easton Town Center offer free yoga or group fitness classes featuring instructors from different studios. It’s a great opportunity to try out different classes, styles and instructors. Make sure to arrive early because classes can fill up fast. Yoga on High offers free introductory classes every season so newcomers can get a taste of the class before signing up for the series. Additionally, Yoga on High’s weekly donation-based Karma Yoga class has no set fee and will lead you through proper stretching, breathing, alignment and more. It is perfect for all levels, so there’s no need to feel intimidated if you’re a beginner. Yoga on High also offers a donation-based body-positive, culturally-inclusive class on Saturday afternoons from 2 to 4pm. This class is also great for all levels and has no set fee, although donations are encouraged.
If you don’t mind an outdoor winter morning workout, meet up with Crushing it Columbus at the stairs behind COSI at 6:15am every Wednesday. You’ll get a great workout that is a combination of cardio and strength training. Classes are free and weatherproof, so make sure to wear the appropriate gear.
If you’ve ever wanted to see what CrossFit is all about, check out CrossFit Clintonville’s Workout Of the Day (WOD). This free class is held every Saturday at 10am and will introduce you to easy-to-learn movements. No registration is necessary.
Limited free trials:
Go Fitness offers one of the best free trials around. Newcomers over the age of 20 can get a 10-day free pass if they qualify. Be sure to bring a photo ID with you.
Thinking about learning a martial art? Right now, you can sign up to try all the martial arts classes at Ronin Training Center absolutely free for one week. Classes range from MMA training to Ronin Fit to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to Boxing to Judo, with just about everything in between.
Looking for a yoga studio? Try one week of free yoga at Yoga Six. This offer is open to new students and local residents only. You can take any class at any studio at any time during the trial period.

Are you looking for something more than your average gym experience?
