COLUMBUS (WCMH) – Thousands lined the streets of Columbus on Saturday as the 35th annual Pride Parade got underway.
According to festival organizers, the first Pride march was held in June of 1981 with 200 people in attendance celebrating the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community. They say some even wore bags over their heads to conceal their identities.
By 2015, there were more than 200 different groups marching, representing all parts of the community. The participants marched up High Street from downtown, and ended at Goodale Park.MORE: How police prepared to keep the community safe during Pride
