Georgia teen sentenced to life for attacking taxi driver with hammer

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WCMH/WSAV) – 18-year-old Raymond Worthem was sentenced Monday to life in prison plus 40 years for beating a taxi driver with a hammer.

Superior Court Judge Penny Haas Freesman called the case “about as bad as it gets.”


Prosecutors say Worthem was a homeless teenager in 2014 when he used a hammer to beat 58-year-old taxi driver Gordon Nash in a robbery attempt.

He hit Nash 15 times in the head with a hammer while trying to rob him, officials say.

Nash was found hours after the attack and is now confined to a wheelchair and must wear a protective helmet.
